M’era Luna 2017

Interviewer: So, today our guests are Solar Fake. Now, asking a direct question to André and Sven: True to your name, Solar Fake, is it your fault that it’s raining outside?

Sven: Yes. It is our fault because we want people to come to see us in the Hangar later and therefore it’s actually bad when there’s beautiful weather outside, isn’t it?

André: We’ve given our apologies to Pitchfork already …

S: Yes.

I: As if the Hangar was ever empty or half full when you are playing …

A: Yeah, but nip it in the bud!

S: Exactly!

I: So we have to help it along a bit.

A: Don’t allow any gapping in the first place.

I: Whereas, the Hangar could be something like your second living room, right? For how many times have you been here?

S: For the second time now …

I: I think I’m counting some other things as well …

S: Yes, exactly. We were here with Zeraphine many times and well, anyway. We were here also with Shadows, but then they still had a different name, that was very long time ago, no need to mention that.

I: Yeah, that was long ago. But still, does it feel like coming home?

S: Definitely, time after time, it’s always nice.

I: Did you prepare a special M’era Luna set? I know e.g. about you, Sven, that you say that with each album you want to excel yourself.

S: It’s really difficult and I had a hard time to decide on the set, because we have 40 minutes, which is great but still short, and we also have a guest musician today playing with us. Benni will be playing e-cello. We’ve tried this before just recently at Festung Königstein open air and it was pretty cool, so we spontaneously said we’ll do it again at M’era Luna, because it’s real fun. So you have to take that into consideration, too. And it’s a pity actually, because he could play even more songs with us, but we cannot play so many songs after all. But, anyway …

I: But you don’t draw by lot or so?

S: No, you have to look for a good arc of suspense. I mean, with 40 minutes, you simply have to step on the gas.

A: At a festival, there’s a completely different feeling, in a club, everything is about us, ‘cause there is only us. But here, there’s hectic everywhere, people are working backstage, bouncing into each other, saying hello, it’s very different.

I: Looking back, 2 years ago …

S: Here? 3 years ago.

I: … it was a bit warmer then.

S: Yes.

I: … and of course, Solar Fake was 3 years younger then. Looking at the development of your band in general, what would you say has changed for you as Solar Fake?

S: Well, I mean, we’ve done an America tour in the meantime, six weeks, and erm, much more people come to our shows, and erm, we had a very successful album, don’t know, everything has been developing in a very positive way and I’m always happy when I think about how it all started and where we’re now, that’s amazing, and all the places we’ve been to by now, that’s really great.

A: Sometimes you’re joking e.g. when you’re on the road in America, sitting in a small van for 13 hours on your way to a small club somewhere in Texas, what do our peers do right now on a Sunday? Having some ice cream with their families – but you wouldn’t change it for anything.

I: So, in spite of the bad weather conditions outside …

S: Come on, yesterday it was worse.

I: … in the Hangar, it will be hot! The sun will rise at 19.00. This said, good luck, see you later!
